Good Awakenings, everyone! The new year is dawning upon us, and it'll be the reset of the Chinese Zodiac, how insane is that? It truly is a time for a fresh start. That being said, I've decided to make up my own reading challenge to fall back on as a guideline! Feel free to participate and if you do, tag me in every post so that I'll know! If enough readers join in at the end of the year I'll make a master list of those who participated!
Storye's 2020 Reading Challenge
10 Prompts to fill up the 12 Months, you can assign which prompt goes to which month, enjoy!
"Introducing....!"
Read a debut novel released on the month you've chosen or the previous month! New writers, can't be known as great writers, with out us supportive readers! So get on out there, and find an author you've never heard of before, then read their bio on the back of the book to see if it's someone you can somewhat resonate with.
Same Name Game.
Read a book with an author or protagonist who shares your first, middle, last, nick or preferred name. And if all that fails, because let's face it-it might. Then pick an author or protagonist that shares the name of your partner! If not, then a name you thought about giving your kid!
"What's Your Favorite Color?"
We're going to judge a book by it's color! Know your favorite color before you walk into the store, then browse for all the books that follow under the category. Then! Take your time in picking the right shade that matches the color of your weary soul.
100 Book Club.
Go to your local Barnes & Noble for this one, and observe the employees. Pluck one you think is worthy, and ask for their 100 Book Club recommendation. (It's an forever-going project booksellers have to do where they pick a title, and have to sell one-hundred copies of them.) Then, read that! Or just ask for what they recommend if they don't have their 100 book, or if their 100 book is not in your YA/Juvenile/Adult liking.
"The Book Was Better."
For this one, you can read a book already published that has a movie out, or has a movie coming out soon. However! The point of this particular challenge is to watch the movie first then read the book. I find that many readers tries the book first before the movie, while I ended up watching the movie then reading the book. While I still find myself agreeing the book was better, the experience was a lot different when it's the other way around!
Illustration vs Photography?
And so, we're going to totally judge a book by it's cover and cover alone! Don't you dare read the summary, or go on goodreads. This one is going to be blind and it's going to be two! So pick a month where you don't have much planned! The goal here is to pluck a book with the best illustrated cover art, and a title that grasps you interest. Then, you'll go and find the best photograph cover (humans, or live stock looking-covers). You'll read them both, and then decide which one you liked better than the other!
"You'll Melt Your Brain!"
This challenge will takes up two months! You can pick a series that has four or more books in them, if you're hardcore, or a trilogy, if you're just a tad a bit too busy. You can reread a series, or take this chance to start up a new one! We all know you've been eyeballing those books that takes up a whole shelf space.
Lotto Ticket
Go online to a random number generator then set it from 1 - 26 (or make a game out of it and tear up 26 pieces of paper and put it in a hat or something) then draw two numbers. The numbers you get, find their alphabetical counterpart. Then find an author who's first and last name begins with the letters you've ended up with!
The Story of An Author.
Another one that will take up two months! Pick an author whose written more than three books. It doesn't have to be a series or the same genre. If you've read one of their books, and they have a lot more out there, they qualify as well. The goal here is to read their debut, a book they've published somewhere in the middle, and then their latest release. And yes, trilogies counts! You can read more than three, more than four and even five. The point is to get familiar with their writing style, and see what tropes they tend to favor.
When I Grow Up!
We were all asked the question, "What do you want to be when you grow up?" whether or not you've continued down the path of your childhood answer, what matters here is that you remember what you wanted to be when you grow up. Read a book relating to that career choice/or where the protagonist is what you chose! And if you were one of those kids that said you wanted to be a superhero, there are tons of those books out there too!
(If you can't seem to find a book that matches your childhood answer, then go ahead and find a book that matches your current answer! If you can't find that either, a book of your current job position works as well!)
Remember to have fun! And thank you for joining!
